STORMY WEATHER.
SNOWSTORMS AND ROUGH SEAS. By Telegraph--Press Association— Copyright Sydney, Sept. 00. Reports have been received in the city of an extensive snowfall in the highlands. The weather is bitterly cold. South-westerly winds are blowing, and coastal storms and rough seas are being experienced. BANK AND NATIVE LANDS. NO LEGISLATION CONTEMPLATED. (Special to Times.) Wellington, last night. I have definite information that nothing has as yet been done by the Cabinet ill regard to the proposal that the Crown should step in and put an end to litigation in connection with nativo lands on the East Coast under mortgage to the Rank of New Zealand, either by acquiring the lands for settlement purposes or advancing sufficient money to pay oil the bank mortgage. In fact it is more than probable that no legislation on the subject will bo attempted at this late stage of the session. How, if such be the ease, the bank is to be stopped from selling under mortgage in January, next I cannot ascertain at present.
