FRIENDS UNABLE TO SAVE HIM,

Paris. Aug. 10.

Automobile accidents are now of daily occurrence. The press chvoniclo dozens of fatalities every day. But the most horrible of all so far was

the one that caused the death of Architect Chftpelle, wealthy, talented, and a favorite in society. He was driving from Villicrs to Rouen, and took a turn too sharply. Three friends accompanying him were thrown out, and he himself was pinned under the big machine—of the same type as Vanderbilt's “ Red Rusher”—and was slowly burned to death, the leaking petroleum becoming ignited. He piteously called on his friends to release him, but one was stunned, and tho other two were unable to move such a weight, ami were compelled to stand by helpless, and witness Chapelle's awful agony.
