WANT TAXATION MAINTAINED FUR COMPANY’S BENEFIT.

A largo meeting was held at Orepuki last night, and passed resolutions urging the Government to restore tho duty on the Oil and Shalo Company's products until such time as the industry is firmly and payably established. The speakers pointed out that it would bo a serious blow for the district and the colony if the works were compelled to closo down after the expenditure of nearly one hundred thousand pounds. A committee was appointed to secure signatures throughout the district- to a petition to be presented to Parliament, and it was decided to communicate with the Chambers of Commerce and labor unions on the subject.
