Compensation Claim.

The hearing of the Kumeroa compensation ease commenced before Mr Justice Edwards. Mr J. C. McKerrow, and Air Horace Baker, assessors, this morning. Messrs T. E. and D. A. T. Crosse, owners of the estate, claim £37.399 compensation for 3600 acres acquired compulsorily by the Government for close settlement. The owners base their claim at £lO 7s 9d an acre. The Government offered £24.300. at the rate of £6 los an acre, less by £13.090 than the amount claimed. Dr Findlay, of Wellington, appears for the Government and Mr Cornford for the owners.
