BOWLING.

KAITI V. GISBORNE

Tiikhk was a large attendance of bowlers and visitors at tiie Kaiti Bowling Chib's green yesterday afternoon, when a friendlygame was played between Gisborne and Kuiti. Two games of fifteen heads were played, the first being between teams skipped by Messrs J. W. Witty and Gau lin. Kaiti went away with the lead, scoring four in tiie first head, two in the second, and a single in the third. Tiie town team then settled down to thenwork, and at the seventh head the score was even. Haiti drew away a second j time, Inning thirteen points to their | opponents’ eight, and only four heads to j he played. The fact of being on the thir- j I teen proved fatal to the suburban team, ! and Gisborne scoring every timo won a | most exciting game by fourteen points to thirteen. The second game was played between teams skipped by Messrs Ponsford and Bright, and was closely contested. Kaiti had seven on tiie hoard before Gisborne could score more than one, hut I’onsford was able to get his team on terms in the next four heads. A good chance for Gisborne was unfortunately lost by I’onsford, who, when lying three with Ins last howl, knocked a Haiti howl in shot. In the last three heads Bright kept Jiis team well in hand, and liimseli drawing several good shots gained ! a victory by a point, and the score on the aggregate oven. Tiie following were tho scores :

Afternoon-tea was supplied by Mrs and Misses Witty, whose hospitality was much appreciated by tiie howlers.

OPENING OF WHATAUPOKO CLUB.

The Wliatuupoko Club celebrated the opening of tho howling season at Captain Perris's green yesterday, when tho following games were played :

Jones Martin Garrett Ilainon Ferris Ilennessy Sidebottom (sk) 10 Simson (skip) 15 The green was in very good order, and the visitors wero most hospitably entertained by Mrs and Misses Ferris. To-morrow afternoon, a team from Gisborne will play Whataupoko. Gisborne will he represented by Massey, McGowan, Coleman, and Batham, and Wliatuupoko by Martin, Simson, Ferris, and Sidebottom.

A meeting of the Committee of tho Gisborne Bowling Club is to he held on Monday, to arrange for the opening of the season.
