FATAL ACCIDENT.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Nelson, last night. A fatal accident occurred at Maitai Valley this evening. .John Packer, an elderly man, with his son Howard and another youth, were getting totara piles out of a rough gully, and when carting piles the dray overturned while crossing a creek, and John Packer was crushed to death beneath the dray. His son and the other youth were attempting to extricate deceased, when Howard was kicked by one of the horses in the head and side, and was badly hurt. .John Packer leaves a widow and a numerous family.
