Seheeper’s commando, being hardpressed, split in two, a part proceeding to Youwa river, and the remainder to Swellendam.
Seheepers, finding the Cape Dutch unresponsive and tho country well-garrisoned, turned northwards from Swellendam. A native pointsman who was suspected of treachery, and of having derailed an armoured train at Taxings, causing three soldiers to be killed, ami five, including an officer, injured, lias been arrested. Lord Kitchener has permitted a number of women refugees to depart, with a view to convincing their husbands on commando of the hopelessness of the, struggle. A Cape police deserter has been sentenced to seven years' hard labor for joining a commando fighting outside Kiiuborlev.
