The Liverpool Times, commenting on the Inter-State Bill, protests against the despotic attempt to force the whole of the shipping trade of Australia with tho rest of the world into one iron-bound system with the Australian railways. It says it is impossible for the mail lines to comply with the Commonwealth demand. Major Ross, representing the Liverpool School for Inquiry into Tropical Diseases, has reduced the mosquito bite victims at Freetown, Lagos, to one per cent., the normal figure. Sydney, Sept. 4. The crew of the ship Notre Dame Dclagarde, and a portion of the crew of tho Alexa, wrecked at New Caledonia, have arrived here.
Perth, Sept. 4. Ono hundred and fifty thousand sovereigns have been shipped to India. Adelaide, Sept. 4. Tho eight-hour celebrations, despite the showery weather, were successful, crowds participating. Tho trades were well represented in the procession. Brisbane, Sept. 4. Mr Deshon, Auditor-General, has resigned through ill-health. Melbourne, Sept. 4. The Federal Government have done nothing yet in reference to the Pacific and Cape cable schemes. The Post-master-General is of opinion that there is no immediate necessity to consider it, as legal points need considering before a policy can be defined.
