A SPITEFUL BOARD.

PUNISHING A CANDID INSPECTOR | Special to Times. | Wellington, last- night-. The strong indignation felt by members of the city and suburban school committees at the action of the Education Board in retiring Chief Inspector Lee, because of his criticism of the .Board's methods of making the appointment of teachers, has culminated in a meeting being convened for Friday of all local school committees. The outcome will probably be a vote of want of confidence in the four members of the Board who constituted the majority against Mr Lee, and a request that the resolution compelling his retirement bo rescinded, and that the enquiry proposed in the first instance as to the justification of the inspector's statements in his annual report, and before the Teachers' Salaries Commission, be proceeded with. The general feeling amongst the School Committees is that the Board has made itself supremely ridiculous by first proposing to sit and pronounce judgment- on its own acts as criticised by its inspector, and then dismissing the offending official withoutgiving him ail opportunity of defending iiis statements. There is stated to be ample evidence that at least- two members of the Board were actuated by personal hostility to the inspector, and some interesting disclosures under this head are likely to be made when the Board meets - a the hist Wednesday in the month.

(By Telegraph - Press Association.) ..I'ington, last night. A meeting of delegares from tne city and suburban school committees will be held on Fridav to consider the action of the E lucation Board in dismissing Chief Inspector Lee. It is understood that a vote of want of confidence in the members of the Board who led in the matter will probably be moved : also a further motion that the Board he requested to rescind its resolution, and hold an enquiry into the whole subject.
