The Builders’ and Contractors’ Conference opened this morning. Mr Johnston, of Wellington, the President, occupied the chair. It was decided to go through the Factories Bill in order to give evidence before the Labor Bills Committee, also to protest against builders' and contractors’ workshops being included in the Factories Act, seeing they are under other laws. Percy E. Whittall has been committed for trial, charged with robbery at Hatch s shop. At the Builders' Conference it was docile J to wait on the Premier and point out the unnecessary difficulties created for the building trade under the amending Factories Bill, also to object strongly to the passing of the provisions to be employed in workshops and hours of ordinary work and overtime, as these clauses clash.with the arbitration award under which the trade is working. A DIVORCE GRANTED.

The Chief Justice to-day granted a dccrc nisi in the divorce suit John Smith v. Sarah Smith and John Rodda. OBITUARY. The Premier, Minister of Education, and a number of members of both Houses of Parliament left to-night for Greymouth to attend the funeral of the late Hon. James Kerr.
