MUNICIPAL ASSOCIATION.

VARIOUS SUGGESTIONS,

By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night.

A joint meeting of the Executive and Legislative Committees of the Municipal Association was held to-day. A suggestion that power be given to transfer moneys from separate accounts to the general accounts, in repayment of amounts spent for special purposes from general account, but not at tho time shown in tho corporation books as being intended to be advances to any special account, was disapproved, as was a suggestion for making the system of allocation of general rate between borough and ward works optional instead of compulsory. Objections were received ftom New Plymouth, Ashburton, and Oarnaru to section !316 of the Municipal Corporations Act of 1900, requiring borough councils to make good the loss when uninsured, or only partially insured, buildings and other property are pulled down or destroyed in order to prevent the spread of fire. It was resolved that the loss ought to fall on tho owner, insurance companies, and borough council in equal shares.
