RUN OVER BY A TRAMCAR,

By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, last night. Hugh McDiarmid, 19 years of age, was j killed in George street on Saturday cvenj mg. It has become a practice with hundreds on Saturday nights to walk on the roadway instead of on the payment. McDiarmid and a friend were doing tliis when a tramcar was going down the hill past the Octagon. The driver gave a warning whistle, and Mr Diamiid’s friend stepped off the rails, but for some un- j known reason the deceased did not. He j was struck by one of the horses, and one 1 of the wheels went over his chest, j crushing it. j
