The Fatal Fight
(To the Editor of the Times.) Sir, —I was much astonished on reading Mr reckover’s letter regarding the report of the fatal fight. To my mind your footnote to the letter put the subject very neatly. I was much impressed with the report, without which we would never have known how that young fellow met his death. It is a wholesome lesson to the vouug men of the community. To my inind it is little short of murder, and it would be most disgraceful to have such an affair hushed up. The misfortune of squeamishness is that things which should be brought home to the young people with force are screened, and the report of that fatal fight would do more in that way than all the dry sermons given to drowsy people trying to make pretence that they are listening.—l am, etc., Practical Christianity.
Sir,— Thanks to Mr Peckover, I have read the report of the fatal fight, showing how poor Otto’ Cribb met his death. I had missed it when reading the Times in the ordinary' course, and the letter brought it under my notice. But the ‘thought that has been troubling me is how 'came Mr Peckover to read it'? It is too much like a man complaining about the food after he has taken more than is good for his delicate constitution. What I would like to see Mr Peckover and others make a crusade against is “ quack ” advertisements about cure-all nostrums.—l am, etc., ReABSP.
