AUCKLAND SPECIAL.

THE GHOST EPIDEMIC,

ONE FOOL MAKES MANY,

(Special to Times.) Auckland, last night. ’ Auckland has been troubled during the past fortnight with a '‘ghost” masquerading in different suburbs each evening. It is evidently some lunatic at large, attired in full “ ghostly ” dress, tricked out with phosphorous. It seems as if we aro suffering from an epidemic of ghosts, for reports aro coming from all parts of Auckland as to the visits of those gentry, Owing to a shock sustained the other evening one lady is seriously indisposed at the hospital. Horses attached to vehicles bolting, narrow escapes are being reported. That the present ghost is not wholly the product of a disordered imagination was proved last night, as was also tho old proverb, 11 One fool makes many.” As a gentleman was going up Pitt street last evening ho saw an individual masquerading as a ghost, wearing a white singlet over his clothes, and holding a walking stick to which was attached a white handkerchief. The gentleman closed with tho supposed ghost, and found it was flesh and blood. He then handed his capture over to the detectives. Hundreds of people assembled at the Police Court on Tuesday, anxiously awaiting to get a glimpse of tho supposed ghost. The ease was postponed. This is not supposed to be tho original ghost. A substantial reward is offered to the person or persons who will give information as to ' the ghost that has beon alarming the - gentler Auckland sex of late, 1
