GRAND NATIONAL MEETING.

(Special to Times.) Christchurch, last night. The second day’s racing in connection with the Grand National Meeting took place to-day. In the morning, the weather was cold and showery, but the weather cleared off during the forenoon. The attendance was much below that of the opening day. The sum of X 12.571 was passed through the totalisator. The following were the results : Summer Handicap, 80 sovs : Muscovite, 9.9, 1; Sant Ilario, 10.11, 2; Whitirea, 9.12, 3. Aquatic was scratched. Muscovite assumed command at the home turn, and drawing away in the straight won in j good style by a length and a-half. Time 2.20 1-5. Divs.: Muscovite X 6 9s, Sant Ilario £1 3s. Hunt Club Handicap, 60sovs, 2£ miles. —Rowlock, 10.7, 1; K Jam, 12.7, 2 ; Coastguard, 12.3,3. Larboard Watch was scratched. Angle and Mangatera fell the first time round, leaving Rowlock in command. K Jam put in a challenge in the straight, but was unable to get on terms with Rowlock, who won easily by several lengths. Time, 5.29. Divs., Rowlock £4 os, K Jam 16s. I August Handicap, loOsovs ; six furlongs.—Cora Linn, 10.11, 1 ; Sundial, 10.5, 2; Goklspur, 3. St. Denis was scratched. Won by two lengths. Time, 1.22 1-5. Divs., Cora Linn £8 4s, Sundial XI 4s. X.Z. Grand National Hurdle Race, of SOOsovs ; about two miles. —Haydn, 11.0, 1 ; Long Tom, 10.7, 2; The Hempie, 9.9, 8. Sundial was scratched. The placed horses were together as the straight was ! entered, but Haydn and Long Tom drew away in tho run home, and a good finish resulted in Haydn getting home by a short length. A protest was entered against tho winner for boring, but was after a short enquiry by the stewards dismissed. Time, 8.55 4-5. Divs., Haydn X 7 11s, Long Tom X2 ss. Beaufort Steeplechase, of 200 sovs ; about three miles.—Stray-bird (10.13) 1, Coastguard (9.7) 2, Opaku (9.7) 3. Stanleyfell. Nipapau was scratched. Won easily by several length. Opaku baulked at tho last fence. Time, 6.38 4-5. Div., XI 10s 6d. )

Second Hunters’ Hurdles, 1] miles.— Surrey (12.8) 1, Mangatera (11.9) 2, Larboard Watch (12.11) 3. Rex was stratched. Won by five lengths after a good race. Time, 3.371-. Divs., Surrey £1 15s fid, Mangatera £1 12s. Merrivalo Hurdle Race, of lOOsovs; once round and a distance.—Huku, 10.9, 1 ; Apremete, 9.0, 2. These were tho only starters. Won very easily. A protest against Huku not being eligible to start was adjourned till to-morrow. Time, 3.11 3-5. Div., £1 10s.

Islington Handicap, of loOsovs; one mile.—Sundial, 10.0, 1; Tauhei, 10.7, 2 ; Cadet, 9.7, 3. Won by a head, after a good race. Time, 1.481-5. Divs., Sundial £9 10s fid, Tauhei £3 6s.
