A FIRE
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AVellington, last night. Ono end of tlie Union Company’s workshop in Victoria street was gutted by tiro at four o’clock this morning. The insurances on the property damaged amount to £2OOO, viz., .£SOO each in tho Alliance, Liverpool, London and Globo. Sun, and North British and Alercantilo offices. The building was also insured for £750 in tho Boyal Exchange. TEAIPERANCE LECTURER.
Air J. G. AA r ooley, who was one oi tho candidates for tho United States Presidency at last election, and is a distinguished American lecturer, is speaking in AA 7 cllington on temperance questions under tho auspices of the New Zealand Alliance.

The Marine Department is informed that the master oE the Isabolla Andcrssn reports sighting about a fortnight ago, betweon Cape Campbell and Kaikourd, something floating which appeared to bo wreckage. A THIEF.
Charles Palmer was committed at the Supremo Court this morning of theft of money, and was sentenced to two years' imprisonment.
