By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, last night. The cable survey steamer Britannia arrived at Suva on July 29th. Mr Kunst, of Samoa, who purchased the steamer Arawatta (re-named. Samoa) from the Union Company for the SamoaHonolulu trade, found the vessel’s coal consumption too high, and sent her to Japan. It is reported that he is having two 4000-tonners built in Germany for the inter-island trade. AVoodville, last night. The four-year-old son of Mr Curtis, sawmiller, was drowned in a creek at Papatawa yesterday. There are a large number of cases of scarlet fever in the town and district just now.
Christchurch, last night. The Bov. H. C. M. AVatson, aged 66 years, died yesterday at Bendigo, ATictoria, where he had gone for the benefit of his health. Deceased was vicar of St.John’s Church here, and father of Mr IJ. B. Marriott AVatson, the well-known novelist.
