Loudon, Aug. 8. Fouche’s commando, recently raiding the Barkley East district, Cape Colony, has re-crossed the Orange river. Colonel Jarvis’ detachment of Queenslanders pursued the Boors north-west of Botliashoek, capturing 15, and 150 horses and ten thousand sheep in one one day. B Colonel Williams, C. 8., of the Now South Wales Medical Corps, has been gazetted with the local rank of surgeongeneral while in South Africa. Myerbaeh, the Cape correspondent of tho Berliner Tageblat, has been arrested on a charge of espionage. Ho will be court-martialled.
Tne Times’ Pretoria correspondent states that Lord Kitchener will not forward the correspondence and narratives in refcrcnco to tho Ylakfontein atrocities until they have bocn confirmed. Owing to the Government- suggesting that tho press censors should be responsible for tho truth of the statements telegraphed, much delay is now occurring in connection with war news.
Sixty British columns arc operating in South Africa.
Duplcssis, tho Boer peaco envoy, who last year visited England, has been sentenced to a month’s imprisonment on a charge of concealing arms. One hundred and twenty British were killed in action during the month of July, forty-fivo died of wounds, one hundred and ninety of disease, nineteen from accidents, sixty-seven are missing and captured, and eleven hundred and thirty-nine havo been invalided homo.

A THREAT TO KUUITZINGEE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, Aug. 9. In the House of Commons Lord Stanley read, amidst Ministerial cheers, tho terms of instructions to Lord Kitchener to execute persons con-'ictcd of authorising tho committing of murders contrary to civilised warfare, in accordance with Kruitzingor’s recent threats. Lord Stanloy explained that Lord Kitchener would decide who was to be entitled to bo considered as belligerents. He acts on his own initiative in tho matter.

Reuter’s Durban correspondent says that Lord Kitchener’s proclamation embodying his instructions is highly approved of. It is felt that stern measures arc absolutely necessary to terminate the war. The Boers captured ajpost and twentyfive of Stcinacker’s Horse at Saki river.
MESSAGE FROM COLONEL PORTER. HE MEETS WITI-I AN ACCIDENT. [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Wellington, last night. Tho Premier received the following cable from Colonel Porter, in command of the Seventh Contingent in South Africa: “ In tho doctor’s hands from horse accident in the field; nothing serious. Tho contingent is at Kroonstadt; expect to rejoin at Bloemfontein for next trek. Most successful engagement. Surprised and captured by contingent during the month: Prisoners, 51 ; rifles, 50; ammunition, 19,000 rounds ; waggons, 84 ; carts, 97 ; cattle, 4000 ; horses, 900 ; sheep, 1000; forage and mealies, 70 tons; Boer women and children removed to concentration camps, 000; Kaffirs, 500. No fresh casualties, and all are well.”
