Estimates of the loss in sheep and wool in Argentina, caused by the inundations of foot and mouth disease last year, have quite recently heon published in Buenos Ayres. The loss of sheep is put down at .£14,000,000. This would involve, it is stated, a diminution in the wool-clip of about 35,000 tons, and reckoning also the impoverished state of the camps after the flood subsided, and would injuriously affect the growth of the wool and be responsible for a diminution of I 7500 tons, a total loss of 45,000 tons. As regards wheat, the crops will be unsatisfactory both in quantity and quality. “ There are yet a few employers who cannot see what personal benefit the Association can be to them,” remarked Mr Frostick at the annual meeting of the Employers’ Association. “ Let me ask them,” ho continued, “ what is their accident insurance premium to-day, and what was it fixed at before the Canterbury Employers’ Association moved in the matter'? I think lam correct in stating that our firm alone actually saved in one year’s premium an amount equal to 30 years’ contribution to this Association.
