LIBERAL ASSOCIATION.

The Liberal Association met last night, the President (Mr E. P. Joyce) being in tlie chair. A telegram from the Hon. J. Carroll, on tlie proposed visit of members of Parliament, was read as following : 11 The Tutanckni is leaving for Gisborne with sleepers too early for members to leave by her. Am trying to arrange for trip of members later on, if circumstances are not in the way ; the visit of members having for its objective tlie opening of a portion of the Gisbornc-Karaka railway. The desire is to act in concert with Napier, which place is also desirous of entertaining members. Kia-orathc Association.— .T. Carroll.” It was decided that the Association should sign a petition in favor of tlie members of Charitable Aid and Hospital Boards being elected direct by the electors, instead of being ex-oilicio members, because they are members of other bodies.

Mr Cogar proposed that the Association expresses its earnest desire to see the Rating on Unimproved Values Bill become law. He spoke strongly in favor of the motion, adducing arguments therefor. Mr Birrell, who seconded the motion, said there were certain apparent inconsistencies which required to bo reconciled, but with the general principle he was quite in sympathy. Mr Joyce also spoke in favor of the motion, which was carried unanimously.
