Harbor Board intend on the 29th day of August, 1901, to strike a Special and an Ordinary Bate on rateable property of the whole Harbor Dia trict, in the proportions of the different parts of the said district of 12-lGths of a Penny in the £ on rateable property in the Borough of Gisborne; 12-32nds of a Penny in tho £ on rateable property in the County of Cook; and 5-32nds of a Penny in the £ on rateable property in the Tolago and Waiapu Districts; to be made under the provisions of “The Bating Act, 1882," and “ The Gisborne Harbor Act, 1884,” and the several amendments thereof; “The Crown and Native Lands Bating Acts Bepeal Act, 18S8,” and under Sections 37 to 44 (both inclusive) of “ The Bating Act, 1894,” for the annual period commencing on tho Ist day of January, 1901, payable in two equal instalments on the 15 th and 30th days of September, 1901, to provide interest on the £200,000 Loan,

The Bate Books are now open for public inspection, and will be so up to Noon on THURSDAY, the 29th August, 1901. Objections (if any) will be considered by the Board at a Special Meeting to confirm the said Bate, the same day, at 2 o’clock p.m. JAMBS WM. WITTY, Secretary, Harbor Board Office, July 27th, 1901. The attention of the Batepayers is directed to the following:— Section 52 of “The Eating Act of 1894,” and sub-section (7) of section i of “The Bating Act Amendment Act of 1895” provides :

Every owner or occupier o* rateable property who shall sell or otherwise transfer the same, or any part thereof, shall, within one month after such sale or transfer, give notice in writing thereof, together with the name and address of the purchaser or transferee, to the local authority in whose district the property is situate. Until he gives such notice he shall remain liable for all rates that may be (Payable in respect of such property. Such notice shall not release him from liability to pay any rates due at the time suoh notice is given.

HAITI BOAD BOABD. IT is hereby notified that it is the intention of the above-named Board, at a meeting to be held on FBIDAY, August 16th, 1901, to Strike a General Bate of Three Farthings in the £, in terms of Section 37 of “The Bating Act, 1894,” and Section 114 of “ Tha Boad Boards Act, 1882”; the said rate to be on the capital value of all rateable property within the said ‘Boad Board District, for the period of one year, from the Ist April, 1901, to the 31st March, 1902, and to be due and payable in one sum on August 31st, 1901, at the Office of the Board, Lowe street, Gisborne. And in respect of Native lands one-half of the above rate. IT IS ALSO NOTIFIED that the following Special Bates, to provide interest on Loans under “ The Government Loans to Looal Bodies Act, 1886,” will be payable for the same period for the respective districts as defined in “ Special Orders ” striking Special Bates, viz.:— On Loan of £1543 17s lOd over the original Haiti Boad Districs, as defined in the New Zealand Gazette of September 29th, 1887, page 1248—Five thirty-seconds of One Penny in the £. On Loan of £2054 6s 8d over the same special rating area—Seven thirty-seconds of One Penny in the £. Total of Special Bates as above—Threeeighths of One Penny in the £. On Loan of £206 2s 3d over Darwin Boad Special District—One halfpenny in the £. The Bate book is open for inspection at the Offioe of the Board during Office hours. HY, McHAY, Clerk.
