TRAMWAY LINE.
(To the Editor of the Times.) Sir, —Your correspondent “ Patutahi ” threw out a very good suggestion to the local bodies, the best I have Quoted yet for an effective and economical road works scheme. But he did not back up his suggestion with the data required to fairly judge it. 'What would ho the size of tho rails and their cost ? Vi hat would be the gauge, and the cost of metallou way 7 What would ho the cost of * sleepers '? Where could the rails be obtained ? When could they be obtained ? What would be tho cost of each horse per month ? And so on. I believe that a contract let on the lines suggested, say to deliver so much metal per month, would get the local bodies the metal for a very moderate sum, and with no risks. Of course it would be necessary to give a big order, running into thorn sands of pounds. —I am»etc., Bor ocuh.
