THE CONTINGENTS.
ENTERTAINED AT WELLINGTON. A PRESENT FOR THE PREMIER, Bv Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. The officers and men of the Fourth and Fifth Contingents wero entertained at luncheon to-day by the citizons of Wellington, His Worship the Mayor presiding. Amongst those present wero the Premier and Mrs Seddon, Sir Joseph an I Lady Ward, and Messrs Mills and Carroll. The hall was gaily decked with bunting, and there was a large attendance of troops. The customary toasts were proposed and enthusiastically honorod, that of tho returned troopers being proposed by the Premier.
During tho proceedings a corporal of the Fifth Contingent presented the Premier with a “kaross,” or rug, composed of silver jackal skins. He explained that when they arrived at Mafelring tho New Zealand battalion which ho represented took part in tho sports, and after winning everything Mr Muklcnbeck took them to his house and entertained them. He had five sons fighting against the Boers. Ho expressed his high esteem for the Premier, and desired them to prosent this kaross to him, with his best wishes for his continued success.
