Gome, brought from Sydney by the Mararoa, was ckargod to-day with obtaining £'24 with intent to defraud from George Tuck, by representing himself to be the owner of a horse, Motor, and selling same. Ho was remanded. New Plymouth, last night. Obituary : Frederick Alonzo Carrington, aged 93. Mr Carrington arrived at Moturoa in the barque Brougham on February 11th, 1841, having been sent out by the Plymouth Company to survey the settlement. Wellington, last night. It is announced by the Premier that an ample supply of rifles for rifle clubs is expected to be available in the courso of a few weeks. Nelson, last night. A deputation from the Wellington City Council, consisting of an engineer and three Councillors, have paid a visit to Nelson for the purpose of inspecting the abattoir. The deputation were shown over the abattoir by the Mayor, and expressed themselves well pleased with it, and will probably recommend the erection of a somewhat larger building on similar lines at Wellington. A meeting of fruitgrowers on Saturday night resolved to form an Association, embracing the whole district, for the purpose of placing the sale of Nelson fruit on a satisfactory footing. It is' proposed to open a wholesale depot here, and that agents he appointed at Wellington, and possibly other centres, to receive and specialise Nelson fruit for private sale. Mr Blackmore, Government Pomologist, attended the meeting. A committee was appointed to draft rules and submit them to a future meeting.
