Morere Hot Springs.

GOVERNMENT TO UNDERTAKE IMPROVEMENTS. While at Wellington Mr J. S. Cooper waited on the Hon. James Carroll and Hon. T. Duncan about tha spending of a grant on the baths. They had an interview with Mr Barron. Chief Surveyor, and he said the reason the money had not been 3pent was because he had not been supplied with the necessary plans he had sent for last year. Mr Cooper replied that Mr Marshall and Mr Martin Smith had taken tho necessary plans last October, and that they had boon forwarded to Wellington. Mr Barron said bo had not received them, but after a great search, to his surprise ho found tho plans. Tho Hons. Carroll and Duncan instructed, him to go on with tho work at once, ft is intended to spend .£SO on the present baths ; then to erect a largo reservoir at tho top spring and bring the water down in pipes 20 chains to just below the bridge, and erecting bath-house, also large swimming pool 50ft x 40ft. Mr Cooper also’ asked the Minister about the bridge at Stewart's crossing, and the Minister replied that as soon as the Nuhaka bridge is complete they will go on with tho one at Stewart’s crossing. Mr Cooper eamo up from Napier in the steamer Weka and landed at Waikokopu. It is a splendid place to land, and will be a great "boon to pooplo coming to the Springs from Napier. Next summer they will be able to leave at midnight and be at Morere to breakfast on the following morning. Of course, tho reason this route j ha 3 not been used before is owing to. the , want of a Nuhaka bridge, but that bridgo t will be completed in two months’ time. ' Tho roads are very good for this time of ‘ the year.
