Tiie report laid on table of the Houso by the Midland Ilailway Commission will be satisfactory reading to the taxpayers, though not so to the debenture holders and shareholders. Nor have the latter anything to complain, of as far as their treatment by the colony is concerned. The Commissioners’ report indeed shows that the colony lias been an actual loser of money by the transaction, to say nothing of the loss of valuable time, of which the people of the colony have good reason to complain, Ihe shareholders and debenture holders may well be dissatisfied with the way their affairs have been conducted. As the Commissioners show the amount expended on administration, supervision, salaries, and interest was out of all proportion to the cost of construction. Those at the head of affairs had a good time, an those who invested for the scheme should fasten the blame on the right shonlder3.
