ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

A man named Thomas Heeney. who was riding home to Gaklcigh, near Clicsterhope, from the races, was found dead last evening on the Pakowhai road, opposite the Mahora creamery. A boy named •James Thompson, who was travelling to Hastings, passed a riderless horse galloping along the road, and some distance further on came upon a man lying by the roadside in a pool of blood. lie examined the body, and concluded the man was dead, so he rode to Hastings and gave in. formation to the police. Assistance was immediately sent, and the body brought to Hastings. Deceased, who was a married man with two children, had only left liis brother John about twenty chains from where he was picked up. There is no information as to how the accident happened. A jockey named Hickey, who was injured by being thrown from Waitio in the Final Steeplechase yesterday, and who it was at first thought was not much hurt, is now found to he slithering from a severe rupture, and his condition is very critical. Two medical men are in attendance on him, and his recovery is regarded as doubtful. Dunedin, June 2!l. Mrs Eliza Mclntosh, a resident of Lawrence, who had been visiting Dunedin during the festivities, was found dead in her bed. She had been taking drugs to relieve pains caused by heart affections. A buttle containing drugs was found alongside her bed.
