Tho Times Pekin correspondent alloges that tho Catholic missionaries liavo exacted locally many millions of taols for indemnification of nativo Christians, undor tho pretext of protecting gentry and officials from interference by tho allies. It adds that theso methods have caused intenso exasperation. Some Protestant missions accepted comparatively insignificant local compensation. GREAT BRITAIN AND DUTIES. INDEMNITY CLAIMS.
