EAST COAST RIFLES. [Special to Times. | Wellington, last night. The East Coast Rifles left for Napier to-night, catching the Waihora at that port. The cadets are returning by the Waihora direct. In conversation with Mr Marshall, tho latter says that the Gisborne and Matawhero cadets were well treated, and thoroughly enjoyed the outing. HQN. J. CARROLL. The rumor that Sir Carroll will receive some recognition at tho Duke’s hand is revived, and on apparently good authority, and points to his good services at the Native gathering, which wits unique in the colony’s history.
