ALLEGED ATTEMPT TO MURDER.
SUPPOSED POISONING BY ACONITE. [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Auckland, last night. At tho Polico Court to-day Emil Berger, remanded from last week, was charged with having at Ardmoro on tho sth iust., attoiuptod to murder his wifo. Sub-Inspector Mitchell said that the polico wore ready to go on with tho caso with the exception of tho evidence of Mr Pond, Colonial Analyst, whoso analysis had not yet been completed. A further remand was therefore asked for. Prisonor objected to a remand. Tho Sub-Inspector, in roply to tho Bonch, said it was suggested that tho poison allogcd to havo boon administered requirod peculiar attention at tho hands of Mr Indly. His Worship : What is tho poison ? Tho Sub-Inspector : Some preparation of aconite, I believo, but I do not know ...1- ■
Worship : I would like to know why .. :alyst, having had samplo since the 7th, is not ready. I think the analysis ought to be completed by now. His Worship explained to tho prisoner that if ho wore discharged for want of evidonco ho would probably bo ro-arrosted at tho door of tho Court. Prisoner consequently withdrew his objection to a remand, and tho case was furthor adjourned for a weok.
