RECHABITE’S SOCIAL.

The members of the Ballance Tent, No. 12, 1.0. R., S.U., hold a very onjoyable social evening in their Tent-room last evoniug. Bro. A. Goorgeson, P.C.R., Superintendent, presided. There were a largo number of tho members and their friends present. Bro. Pcckovor, of the Gisborne Tent, gavo a short address, urging all to join the Rochabitos. He put beforo thoso preBont tho many advantages to bo derived from becoming Rechabites. Ho stated that it would cost a juvenile, whoso parents were not in a benefit society, 8s 9d per quarter if he joined tho Tent, and a member whose parents wore in a benefit society would only have to pay 2s 6d per quartor. The benefits conferred woro 5s a week sick pay and dootor’s attendance and medicine, and a funeral donation of £5.

The Chairman during the evening presented to Bro. W. Roland a handsome sash, which had been presented by Bro. A. Georgeson. In making the presentation, the .Chairman referred to the assiduous way in which Bro. Roland had carried out his duties in passing through the chairs. It was, he stated, tho custom to present a sash to all tho brethren who had occupied the position of Chief Ruler. Bro. Roland briefly" replied. Another presentation was made by the Chairman, tho recipfent being Bro. E. Bloomfield. Bro. Bloomfield had been successful in winning the district prize (a collar), which was given to the member who introduced the largest number of mombers into the Tent during the past year. - During the evening, an excellent programme was gone through, the items being:—Song, “Just as the Sun Went Down,” P. Adair; recitations, ‘ijim Bludso,” “ The Brothers,” The Dutchman’s Mistake,” Bro. W. Roland ; song, “ I’ll Bo Your Sweetheart,” B. Maynard; gong, “Break the News to Mother,” Bro. J.Doyle; recitation, “ Jack Chiddy, u Byo. J. Peckover; recitation, “The Last Redoubt,” Bro. James Georgeson ; reading, “ A Night with a -Ventriloquist,” Bro. A. Georgeson. The accompaniments were played by Mrs Olsen. , - Refreshments were handed round during the evening, and were freely partaken of. The. gathering was brought to a close about 10 o’clock.
