BUTTER FACTORIES.

We have been asked to publish the following reports from the Australasian to show the success of co-operative butter factories :

Garvoc.—The half-yearly meeting of the Garvoc Butter Factory was held at Panmure on the 6th inst. Mr Gideon Nicol, the Chairman of Directors, presided. The balance-sheet showed a profit on the half-year of .£I4BB 9s lOd, which was applied as a bonus to the shareholders, and writing off the value of several of the properties. The average price in London was £5 9s 7d a cwt. Terang.—The Mortlake Butter and Cheese Factory has made a profit of £l4Ol for the half-year. Warrnambool.—-The half-yearly report and balance-sheet of the Grasmere Cheese and Butter Factory has just been issued to the shareholders. The milk received amounted to 11,814,072, and the butterexported to 184 tons. The total receipts were £24,134 3s Bd, and the expenditure was £20,014 15s 4d, leaving the handsome sum of £4,119 8s 4d to be divided amongst the shareholders, by paying 7 per cent, per annum on all shares and ljd per lb. on the tested butter yield, and dividing £3O among the workmen as a bonus. The shareholders receive virtually 10-jd for every pound of butter derived from the milk supplied according to the tests, equalling in many instances over 4d a gallon for the milk received by the factory. The profit shown for the half-year is greater than the original working capital of the company at its inception. Warracknabeal: At an ordinary monthly meeting of the directors of the local butter factory, Mr Alfred Ewens was appointed manager of the Aubrey Creamery, in the place of Mr Chartes Muller, jun., resigned. The price of butter fat for the preceding month was fixed at 81 d and 71 d respectively, as affecting shareholders and nonshareholders.
