WHATAUPOKO ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Board was ( hold yesterday, Messrs Matthews, Lysnar, , Orr, Ferris, and Sievwright being present. On the motion of Mr Sievwright, seeonded by Mr Lysnar, Mr Matthews was re-elected as Chairman, his work being referred to in eulogistic terms. Mr Mat- : thews briefly returned thanks. In a ballot as to retiring members next year, the names of Messrs Matthews and Orr were drawn. On the motion of Mr Sievwright, seconded by Mr Lysnar, it was resolved to give notice of the termination of the present Clerk’s engagement. It was pointed out that there- was no reflect ion. on Mr McKay, who had carried out his work well, but that the time had arrived when there should ho a clerk and treasurer—instead of a clerk whose work kept him at office duties. It was decided that in future meetings bo held at 7.30 on Friday evening. Mr Sigley wrote referring attention to the condition of Stafford street, between Ormond road and Stout street. This portion had never been formed, although it was in the centre of the township. The present was the most suitable time of the year to have the work done.- DeThe Chairman was authorised to use his discretion in the matter of getting urgent minor works done. The Sanitary Inspector (Mr Malcolm McLeod) reported adversely on the way sanitary.matters were being earned out in regard to nightsoil. He also complniiiGcl' that His duties had been increased beyond the remuneration given.—Messrs Lysnar, Sievwright, and the Chairman were appointed a committee to enquire into the matter, with power to-take legal proceedings against offenders. _ It was resolved to have several drams cleaned out, and to ask tho County Council to bavo their drains cleaned out and the fennel cut down. .
