SUPREME COURT SITTINGS.
THIRD TRIAL OF A NASTY CASE. CLERK OF COURT’S EMBEZZLEMENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Dunedin, last night. The criminal sittings were concluded to-day. The jury were unable to agree in the charge of incest against John McGormick. The Crown Prosecutor said that he would prosecute again next session for the third time. Accused was admitted to bail. Hugh Campbell, an old man, was sentenced to one month for larceny from a hotel. L. Horatio Nelson Firth, Clerk of the Court at Queenstown, came up for sentence for embezzling £6OO, moneys received as mining registrar, etc. It was stated that restitution of the full amount had been made, ~ and counsel asked that accused be let off with a fine. Mr Justice Williams said that the case was a sad one, but he must pass an adequate sentonce of 12 months’ imprison* went with hold labor,
