Nelson, last night.. The City Council has decided' to confine its share in the Ducal demonstration to local celebrations on the day of arrival at Auckland. All the Councillors are strongly averse to complying with a request to spend money on an arch or other display at AVellington, as being an absolute waste of money. Christchurch, last night. The Premier told a deputation of dairymen that tho question of appeal from., the decision of tho Inspector would be referred to the Minister of Agriculture; also that dairy companies would be brought under tho regulations where competing with individual dairymen. Mr Seddon has informed the Hon. Mr Bowen that a magnetic observatory will be established at Christchurch in time to be of use to the Antarctic expedition.

Timaru, last night. The Hon. Major Steward is now visiting his electorate, and yesterday, at the request of the occupants of. tho Government settlement at Paerora No. 2, inspected their water-race, which they say was an Inducement to apply for allotments. The race proves to be useless, - Major Steward promised to endeavor, to get a Government engineer sent to inspect it. Last evening he addressed a meeting of electors at St Andrews, explaining the chief .measures of last session. He will re-introduco the Elective Executive Bill. With regard to Federation, he argued that it would be unwise for New Zealand to join the Commonwealth. : >.■
