East Coast Mounted Rifles.

MAFEKING CUB COMPETITION. Tue East Coast Mounted Rifles had very unfavorable weather for their shooting competitions at the Kaiti range yesterday, a strongly westerly wind prevailing fof the greater part of the day, and consequently hampering the competitors in their shooting, which, as the figures show, was not of a very high standard. The principal prize was the Mafeking Cup, a handsome specimen of the silversmith’s art, which was presented to tho corps by Mr F. J. Shelton. Tho conditions were seven shots at 300 and 500 yards and ton shots at 700 yards, prizes being given to the highest scorer at each range. Trooper F. Reynolds again provod himself the best shot in the corps, by carrying off the cup, with a total score of 61, Quartermaster-Sergeant Evans being second with 52, and Corporal Hamilton third with 51 points, There were thirty-one competitors. The first prize in the handicap Range Match, of 300yds, was won by Trooper A. Zachariah, with a total of 22 points, Trooper C. Skeet being second, with 21 points, Troopers Symes, Long, and Oates taking the other prizes, with a score of 20 points each. At 500vds QuartermasterSergeant Evans won from scratch, making 22, Troopers Maxwell and Oates being next with 21 each; and Sergeant-Major Beere and Corporal Pirie took the remaining prizes with a score of 20 each. The four model carbine brooches, presented by Mr W.D.Lysnar, for section firing,were won by Sergeant Fail-lie’s section, consisting of Sergeant Fail-lie, Troopers Oates, Hayden, and Richardson. Captain Winter was the officer in charge, and the marking was done by Messrs ;Skoct and Redward. The following are the soores : Mafeking Cup.
