A GREAT GATHERING.

TMARU’S RECEPTION OF TROOPERS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Tiruaru, last night. A social and ball in honor of the South Canterbury members of the returned contingent was held last night, and was the greatest indoor gathering ever held hero. Fully 1500 of all classes from town and country were present. A huge new store, with 20,000 feet floor space, was available, and was prettily decorated and excellently lighted. Several speakers, the Hon. HallJones among them, welcomed home the officers and men, of whom about 40 were present, and a sympathetic telegram was read from the Premier. The. whole affair was well arranged and a great success, and most of the guests stayed till 3 a.m. The proceedings opened with a parade of the returned troopers, who were heartily cheered as they marched around the room. Colonel Jowsey and .Major Crawshaw received ovations on returning thanks for the great reception.*; :
