CORONATION OATH.
PRESBYTERIANS OBJECT TO ANY ALTERATION. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, May 15. The Presbyterian General Assembly dismissed a proposed modification of the coronation oath.
The Rev. Dill Mackay moved to the effect that the Presbyterian Church of New South Wales enters a most earnest and solemn protest against any alteration. In the course of a warm attack on the trend of the English Church towards Romo, he said it was not possible now to say which priests of the Anglican Church had been ordained according to the form of the Church of Rome. The movement had for its object the obtaining of the throne of England for the Roman Church. If the oath were altered in any degree it would he making an opening for the Roman Church to gain the ascendancy over the English throne. Rev. Dr Cloutson moved an amendment that the Assembly does not offer any objection to such modification of the coronation declaration as, while preserving Protestantism on the throne, shall be less objectionable. The motion was nogativod, and the amendment carried.
