Kaiti Road Board.
A meeting of the newly-elected Kaiti Road Board was held on Tuesday, there being present Messrs G. Matthewson, F. Bull, A. F. Bridges, F. Harris, and J. A. Harding,
Mr G. Mattewson was re-elected Chairman of tho Board on the motion of Mr Bridges, seconded by Mr Harding. On taking the chair, Mr Matthewson said it was very flattering to him,fo he again appointed to the positiojjr but he had rather preferred that.*#the office had devolved on some other member. However, he hoped, with the assistance of other members, to do his duty to the satisfaction of the ratepayers, and consistently endeavor to promote the progress of the district. „
Mr Harding cordially welcomed the two now members, and felt assured that one and all would work in accord to advance the interests of the ratepayers generally. Messrs Bridges and Harris briefly returned jdianks, and staged they would in every way help in all matters concerning improvements in the way of public works, consistent with the Board’s revenue.
Mr Harris also complimented the Chairman on the result of the recent action in the Supreme Court, as it was mainly owing to his advice and exertion that there was a successful issue in the matter. He also hoped that in cases where judgment for rates had been obtained for considerable amounts further action would be taken to enforce payment. On a ballot being taken for the two members who retire next May, Messrs Matthewson and Harding were drawn. On the motion of Mr Harding, seconded by Mr Bull, Mr H. McKay was re-elected Clerk and Collector of the Board.
lvlr Bridges brought fonyard maitors relating to sanitation, and gave instances where household slops and other offensive matter were discharged into-drains, and urged that steps be taken at once to abate such nuisances. It was agreed that all offenders receive notice.
In view of the constitution of a proposed health district, which would embrace Kaiti, the Board considered the question, and approved of salne.
Several works re cleaning drains and repairs were mentioned, and a committee of the whole Boat'd was 6et up to examine particular localities aud report. A letter was received from sho Co.ok County Council re drain oh ‘Wainui road, lirwas'resolved that a reply be serit representing the Board’s view, and willingness to comply in the removal of earth and the erection of a guard rail.
From same, claim for award re arbitration award, .£'7 7s 6d, re Titirangi, JSmSSS* “ 'T'. Wing. . uaKen if amount was not paid. It was resolved that the letter be received.
Accounts amounting to £37 2s lid were passed for payment.
