A DARING ROBBERY.

THREE SAFES BLOWN OPEN WITH DYNAMITE,

By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, last night.

The Christchurch Workmen’s Co-opera-tive Stores were broken into yesterday by evidently an experienced gang of burglars. The sum of £llß was stolen. Three safes wore blown open with dynamite, soft goods in the store being used to deaden the noise of the explosion. The thieves displayed cunning in the selection of negotiable money. They left behind defaced coins, cheques, and postal notes. The robbery is supposed to have occurred before daylight in the morning. People living near heard the loud barking of dogs at about 2 a.m., and about 4 a.m. heard the dull sound of an explosion. They attached no importance to it. Tho robbery is the most serious that has happened here for a long time.
