In connection with the stabbing affair, Brown was before the Court to-day, and was remanded for a week, bail being granted in two sureties of £SO each. The General Post Office is advised that the Sierra, with British mails of the 27th April, left ’Frisco on May 9th, fifteen hours late. .

Keports received by the Minister of Justice show that the prisoners engaged in tree-planting at Waiotapa, Rotorua, are behaving remarkably well, and are doing excellent work. Mr J. L. liinsella, a well-known journalist, for many years connected with the literary staff of the New Zealand Herald, Auckland, and latterly Wellington correspondent of that paper, died at Khandallah last night, aged 76. Deceased contracted a cold on Tuesday-, which developed into jfheumonia. -For many years Mr lxinsella was a shorthand reporter for Parliamentary Committees, and was highly respected. Jambs Hart, in whoso case the jury failed to agree last week, was convicted at the Supreme Court to-day, on retrial, of larceny from the mate of the steamer Tekapa, and was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment.
