Co-operative Dairying.

(To the Editor.)

Srn, —On reading your paper this morning I was pleased to seo that tho dairymen of this district are waking up to their own

interests, and arc discovering that they arc working and slaving for an existence from before daybreak in the mornings, week in and week out, and no holidays, while others are making a good profit out of this labour, though by eo-operation that profit could bo divided amongst

them. This might not reduce the labor, but would help to reduce their overdraft, and in some cases the long standing accounts of tradespeople and others. It seems to mo, Mr Times, that tho majority of the dairymen arc in favor of co-operation, but the reason of theirnotsaying so, and acting accordingly, is because they do not want to hurt the feelings of or injure tho factory proprietors in any way. Of course they consider tho factories, as at present conducted, a long way ahead of the old stylo of each making his own butter and hawking it around for sale, but lam sure t! if the co-operation of the dairymen eoifl oo got they would find co-operation as much ahead of tho proprietary system as the proprietary system is ahead of the old. When they have experienced men of the stamp of Messrs Tuoliy and Walsh to back them up, I think they need feel no uncertainty in co-operat-ing. lam anxiously awaiting the result of their next meeting, and trust that for their own benefit, and that of the whole district, the dairymen will buy out the present proprietary concerns, and run them on their own. —I am, etc., Matawhero.
