CHEEKING THE MAORILANDERS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, last night. The Hon. J. G. Ward cabled to Mr Seddon that the New Zealand Contingent received a great ovation at the review' at Flemington. INVITATION TO CANADA. The Premier sent an invitation to Sir Wilfrid Laurier to visit New Zealand during the Royal visit, but the Canadian Premier replied that it would be impossible to accept the invitation. The Dominion’s representative now in Australia will, however, visit the colony. A MEMORIAL. The men of the Second Contingent, which was largely composed of North Islanders, have decided to erect a memorial in Wellington to the memory of the men of that force who fell in South Africa. They have donated five days’ pay, and already .£2,000 (?) has been subscribed. Major Cradock will send out plans for the purpose from England.
