[By Telegraph—Tress Association.] Wellington, last niglit. The mails which left Melbourne by the Cuzco on April 3rd arrived in London on the morning of the 7th, two days late. The Aorangi’s mails, which left Sydney on March 2Sth, arrived in London on the afternoon of the sth, four days late. The Premier is advised that Private Conrade Saxby is with his regiment, and Privates Miller and Popharn are believed to be well, and with their regiments. A dispute between the Wellington and Christchurch branches of the St. John Ambulance Association, respecting a claim to the title of the centre, has been settled by the London authorities in favor of the Wellington central executive. 'On the recommendation of Lord Ranfurly, it has been decided that all centres in the colony are to be on an equal footing, and to be recognised i4pder a uniform title. Among the passengers from Sydney by the Warrimoo are Lady Ranfurly, Ladies Constance and Eileen Knox, and Mr Beauchamp (of the Federation Cominis sion)
A • Auckland, last night. Ex-Constable Cullinane has died at the hospital.' Three years ago he was brutally kicked by a man he was endeavouring.to arrest. He was retired from the force on half-pay. At the beginning of this year his assailant was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment. Deceased leaves a widow and one child.

A formal demand for a poll upon the question of a'doption of rating on unimproved values has been numerously signed, and whs presented to the Mayor this morning. A meeting of ratepayers of Wallace County at Headou Bush resolved chat the present system is a tax on industry and enterprise. It was resolved almost unanimously to circulate a petition for a poll. Colonel Hunt and Captain Nuthall, two Imperial officers, arrived by the Warrimoo in connection with the puchaso of remounts for South Africa, and will visit all the agricultural centres. Timara, last night. The retiring Mayor, Mr John Hole, last night entertained the Mayor and the new and old Councillors and others at a social gathering, and presented to the Counoil framed enlarged photos of twelve past Mayors and the Clerk, Mr E. 11. Lough, who has been in office since the borough was inaugurated in 1867. It is a fine day for the reception of the troops, and the streets are being gaily decorated. . •
Dunedin, last night.
Mr G. L. Donnistoh was installed Mayor yesterday afternoon before'' a good attendance of cx-Mayors. The Premier was also pjxS’ent. Tho Council passed a resolutjpft'thanking Mr Chisholm, the retiring -Mayor, for the very successful manner in which he had carried out his arduous duties during his seventeen months of office, including the despatch of the contingents and receiving the returned troopers.
