THE MINERS' DISPUTE,
[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Napier, last night
At the Conciliation Court to-day a witness gave evidence that the gas in many of the Thames mines was dangorous to minors’ One witness thought that the increased pay would done harmtointioducjno capital, as the Companies could take a portion off the salaries of the highly paid officials. Another said that a number of the Thames mines smaller properties were being held chiefly for speculative purpose's. It was stated on behalf of the companies that the Thames-Plauraki had spent over eighty thousand pounds on plant, the May Queen sixteen thousand pounds in twelve months on developments and mine work, and that other large companies were being reconstructed to ptovide for further capital.
GOVERNMENT LAND DURCIIASE. The Government are to be again approached by tho local bodies re the pmchase of nine thousand acres of land at Diako Swamp. THE COMET.
The Thames observatory reports that comet is just entering the constellation of orion. _____
