CO-OPERATIVE WORKS.

During the last month Government employed 5569 men on the co-operative works. Of these the Survey Department had 2692 men. The Auckland district employed 956 laborers, and Wellington 757. The Public Works Department had 245 artisans and 2632 laborers, all but 39 of the artisans and 49 of the laborers being employed on railway works. The North Island Main Trunk line absorbed 1072 men, Otago Central 504, the Midland 320, and Blenheim 234.
