The Petone workshops are working overtime. The railway carriages which arrived recently from America are being put together as rapidly as possible. The carraige which is being fitted for the Royal visitors, it is expected, will be one of the finest pieces of work of its class that has ever been turned out in the colony. One of the first-class carriages wont for a trial trip to Napier on Saturday. It is under the control of officers of the department. It is of the bird-cage type, and lias compartments capable of accommodating thirty passengers. The interior fittings are convenient and comfortable. The se-cond-class carriages are also very comfortable, containing cushioned seats with perforated willow backs. The classes of carriages will be distinguished by the figures 1 and 2 upon brass plates.
