American Boots.
London, March 16. Xo American industry is making more rapid strides here than American boots. A leading London paper to-day says : “ English boot manufacturers must wake up if they don’t desire to see the I whole, of their home and colonial trade I pass into the hands of their American rivals. In Mayfair, as well as in the East I End, the preference for American boots is being plainly demonstrated. ‘•Last year, the value of American boots and shoes imported into England was .£963,803, against .£764,257 the preceding year.” The explanation offered by the storekeepers is that America turns out a more comfortable and shapelier boot at a cheaper rate, and the Americans exert themseh es to provide what the public wants, whereas the English manufacturers anly supply what they think best. 1
English manufacturers have now been du\en for self-preservation to imitate American methods of manufacture, but these can’t be learned in a day, How does a man get in a funk, And take himself right off to bunk, when a pain with symptoms vague, „ 111 ™ a be him think he’s caught the plague. How often does a cough or cold Make cowards of the brave and bold, Until they find the remedy sure— W. E. Woods’ Great Peppermint Cure.
