Hatuma Estate.

THE RESULT OF THE BALLOT.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Napier, last night. The Hatuma Estate of 25,727 acres, acquired compulsorily under tho Lands for Settlement Act, and which was. subject to long legal proceedings between Mr Purvis Russell and the Government, was ballotted for at Waipukurau yesterday, in the presence of a large number of interested spectators. Altogether, there wore 225 persons representing 920 applications for 57 sections. The ballot was held under the supervision of the Crown Lands Commissioner, and Mr 11. B. Bland, of the Board. For some sections there were as many as 40 to 00 applicants. In addition to successful Hawke’s Bay applicants sections went to settlers from Canterbury, Marlborough, Wellington, Taranaki, Wanganui, Wairarapa, and elsewhere. The ballot omtho whole was eminently successful.
