MASSACRE AT MATHIAS ISLANDS.
SCIENTIFIC EXPLORATION. PARTY MURDERED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, April 27. Steamer Moresby brought details of the massacre at St. Mathias Island, Bismarck Archipelago. While at New Britain the yacht Eberhard, owned by Ilorr Meneke, who was conducting a scientific exploration at the Archipelago, arrived and reported that when Ilcrr Meneke and his secretary, Caro, together with the doeto r, and some natives boys, were camped, the Mathias Islanders attacked them in great force. The doctor was speared in the leg, bin mannged tp escape. A party went to tho scene, and found lierr Meneke dead, and Caro, who was severely injured, died after removal to the yacht.
